It's that time of year again: pumpkin patches, apple cider doughnuts, and even a clown making balloon figures. It's time for Fall!

Conversations

In the car on the way back from Colorado this summer:
Haydan: I feel car sick
Dan: Uh oh. What kind of car sick to you feel?
Haydan: I'm sick of being in the car.

Quinn is my social butterfly, and loves to chat people up - especially men. So at my last OB appointment, while my DR was examining me, Quinn was chattering away to him. He is the greatest guy and was happily responding back. When he asked if she was going to be a doctor, she exclaimed:
"I not be a doctor! I have to go home."

Due to being pregnant (or at least that's my excuse - and I'm sticking with it!), the mommy got a little lazy, and well, was just plain tired, so when Quinn started waking up again at nights I gave her milk to get her to go back to sleep. I know, I know - it's horrible for her teeth and a bad habit. Every super mom and dentist is cringing right now. I kept thinking she'd evenutally just start sleeping through the night on her own, and like magic, problem solved. Wishful thinking. So while we were in CO in July, I was beyond exhausted and after witnessing another emotional break down (sorry Racheland Naomi!), my wonderful sisters-in-law gave me some great advice, comfort and support. So that very night I informed Quinn that she wasn't getting any milk at night because the doctor said no. (I was hoping a third party would give her the impression it was beyond my control.) And it actually worked. Not that she wasn't mad and there wasn't some screaming and crying, but it was great for me, because what could I do? The doctor said no. Well the next day, I walked into the room where she was playing and she said:
"You're Sarah. You my mommy."
I replied, "Yes, and you are my daughter."
Quinn, obviously not hearing me correctly, exclaimed, "I not doctor! They say no milk."

Haydan attends preschool twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursday), and one of her days happened to fall on May 5th. Her teachers sent out a notice a couple of weeks before announcing that they would be having a Cinco de Mayo party. I asked Haydan is she wanted to see if her Grandma Perry (who is a Spanish and ELL teacher) had anything she could wear. Haydan was really excited about the idea. I didn't think of it again until the Thursday before her Tuesday class party. We were on the way home from preschool, when I told her we needed to remember to call her Grandma that night. Here is the following conversation:
Haydan: I am so excited! I really want Grandma to make me an American flag dress.
Me: American flag dress...for what?
Haydan: For Cinco de Mayo.
Me: Oh, well Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday.
Haydan: I know, that's why I want her to make an American Flag dress.
Me: Well, it's a Mexican holiday, so you probably want to wear something Mexican.
Haydan: Oh. [slight pause] So I guess that means we wont be saying the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag that day.

While carrying Quinn around the store, she patted the front of my shirt
Quinn: What's that?
Me: That's my bra.
Quinn: quickly grabs my shirt and takes a peek.
Me: quickly closes my shirt and hope nobody else got a peek.
Quinn: Cute bra, Mom.
Me: Uh, thanks.
Quinn: Dad, you wear a bra?
Dan: No.

Quinn: Jumping and being crazy on my bed.
Haydan: You need to chill-lax child.

Quinn: Mom, help me find Snow White's shoe. C'mon Mom!
Me: Quinn, your Dad is sitting right there, can't he help you?
Quinn: No, Mom. Help me!
Me: What? Do I have "Mom's the only one who can help me with things" stamped on my forehead?
Quinn: Yes.
